Horseracing officials in the Turf Club, which regulates and enforces the rules of horseracing in Ireland, have voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action which could affect upcoming race meetings across the country.

Mandate which represents 29 of the officials, says the move follows a 36.5% cut in their salaries although the union says the organisation's overall funding was cut by 22% by Horseracing Ireland.

A union representative said it would indicate early next week when the industrial action will take place.

The union has also warned that the overall reduction in the Turf club's funding could pose a risk to horse identification on racing days and also the testing of horse blood and urine samples for performance enhancing products.
