Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has said his party, in power, would wind down Anglo Irish Bank in conjunction with the European Central Bank over a period of seven to 10 years.
Speaking on RTÉ Radio, Mr Kenny said he believed the Government would come back to the taxpayer with a request for a further €6 billion, and that his proposal would save the taxpayer about €3 billion.
Mr Kenny also said that later this month Fine Gael would move a private members motion, calling for an all-party Oireachtas inquiry aimed at finding out why the regulatory system failed.
