The Scottish airline Flyglobespan has been grounded with immediate effect after its parent company went into administration with the loss of 800 jobs.
All Flyglobespan flights were cancelled from last night.
The announcement came from administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers who said the Edinburgh-based travel firm, Globespan, had failed to secure extra funds which it had been seeking.
The airline operates ten planes with flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, as well as transatlantic flights from other UK hubs including Manchester, Gatwick and Belfast.
With thousands of customers already on holidays or with Christmas and New Year bookings, Flyglobespan has advised customers to visit its website and is opening a helpline this morning.
