Gardaí and the navy have begun searching along the two channels of the River Lee for a 19-year-old student who has been missing since early yesterday morning.

Brían Ó Tuama was last seen leaving Gorby's night club at 1.30am yesterday.

A native of the Gaeltacht area Ballymakeera, near Macroom, the man is a second year arts student at University College Cork.

The alarm was raised when he did not return to his university accommodation.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have seen the young man to contact them.

He is described as being 5'11" in height, of average build, with long dark brown hair and blue eyes.

He was wearing a grey hoodie with a Frank & Marshall logo in white on the front, dark jeans and Vanrunners.
