The Government has reiterated that politicians' expenses will be radically overhauled amid more disclosures over travel expenses for ministers.

Minister for Social and Family Affairs Mary Hanafin said she could understand people being angry but insisted the regime will be changed.

There were more disclosures on ministerial expenses in today's Sunday Tribune, including €735,000 incurred by Minister for Health Mary Harney for use of the Government jet over three years.

The paper also disclosed expenses arising from overseas trips by former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, Transport Minister Noel Dempsey and Green Party leader John Gormley.

At a time when it is planning Budget cuts of €4bn, the Govt says it is determined to the message out that there will be changes.
