More than 900 jobs in two separate business groups are at risk in Dublin, Cork and Galway.

Around 566 jobs are at risk in after Linen Supply of Ireland applied to the High Court have an examiner appointed.

The company provides textile rental and laundry cleaning services to companies in the hospitality, healthcare and food industries.

A spokeswoman for the company said the hospitality and retail sectors had been badly hit by the current recession, leading to a substantial decline in demand for the company's textile services.

Turnover in the linen division is down 26% compared to the same time last year while overall it is estimated the company will lose up to €5m in the current year.

'The priority now for the company is to protect our business and to protect the jobs of as many employees as possible, said Tara Devitt, head of human resources at the company.

The company has operations in Dublin, Cork and Galway.

Meanwhile, a provisional liquidator and an interim examiner were appointed to Capital Bars and Capital Hotels, trading as Marino Ltd, which employs 321 people.

A provisional liquidator was appointed in the case of the Grafton Capital Hotel, The Trinity Capital Hotel and the Dragon Bar all in Dublin city centre.

An order was also made for the appointment of an interim examiner to Cafe En Seine bar and The George bar and Howl at the Moon all also located in Dublin.
