Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin has met senior Sudanese officials in Khartoum to press for the release of an Irish aid worker kidnapped more than two months ago.
Sharon Commins (32) from Clontarf, Dublin, was kidnapped in Darfur along with her Ugandan colleague, Hilda Kawuki.
The two were taken by a gang of armed men from a compound run by Irish aid agency GOAL on 3 July.
In a brief statement, Mr Martin said he wanted to pass on the Irish people's concern about the kidnapping and the Government's willingness to help efforts to free the women.
GOAL has welcomed the Government's decision to send Minister Martin to Sudan, saying authorities there are the key to the release of the two aid workers.
