The Irish Nurses Organisation has reiterated its opposition to any attempt by the Government or the Health Service Executive to reduce its members' pay and allowances.

The union has warned that it will consider industrial action if there is any attempt to impose pay cuts on its members.

Yesterday, Minister for Health Mary Harney indicated that the Government may have to contemplate salary reductions if the HSE could not identify €400m in savings, as recommended by the McCarthy report.
