A coroner investigation into Michael Jackson's death has found he had lethal levels of the powerful anesthetic propofol in his body when he died.

The Los Angeles Times has reported that court documents it has seen show Mr Jackson's personal doctor Conrad Murray told detectives he gave the performer the drug propofol to treat insomnia.

The 50-year-old suffered cardiac arrest and died on 25 June.

Since then, police have probed his death in an investigation that appears focused on the use of prescription drugs and the role of doctors who treated him, including his personal doctor.

An autopsy report in to Mr Jackon's death remains sealed while police complete their investigation into the role prescription drugs may have played in his death.
