Former Philippine leader and democracy icon Corazon Aquino has died. She was battling colon cancer for over a year and died of a heart attack.
Mrs Aquino's son Senator Benigno Aquino Jr issued a statement saying 'Our mother peacefully passed away at 3.18 am 1 August of cardio-respiratory arrest. She would have wanted us to thank each and every one of you for all the prayers and the continuous love and support.'
The former President was the heroine of the 1986 'people power' revolution.
