The Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association says it is quite clear that major deficiencies still exist in Brazilian beef and that it should not be allowed to be traded in the EU.
Commenting on the latest inspection report on Brazilian beef, Martin McMahon, Chairperson, ICMSA's Beef & Cattle Committee, said it is not meeting the same standards as EU beef.
In the report, of the 12 farms inspected by EU inspectors, six or 50% of them were found to have deficiencies.
Mr McMahon said if these were found on an Irish farm, they would lead to a serious financial penalty for the Irish farmer or possibly imprisonment.
Separately, talks between the IFA and Greencore about the price for this year's malting barley crop are still underway.
The IFA insists growers must make a margin over their production costs, otherwise their business will not be sustainable.
IFA National Grain Committee Chairman, Colum McDonnell, said that talks on Friday between the IFA and Greencore had failed to provide any reassurances for growers about prices and other key issues.
These, he said, include the decision by Greencore to reduce the number of intake points and the cutting of contracts.
