A search is under way off the Carlingford Peninsula in Dundalk Bay tonight after reports that a light aircraft came down in the area.
The coast guard was alerted to the incident at around 8.20pm this evening.
The Irish Coast Guard Helicopter from Dublin and the RNLI lifeboat from Clogherhead are involved in the operation.
On the shore, the Clogherhead coast guard unit and Drogheda coast guard unit are helping with the search.
So far no debris has been found and there have been no official reports of any missing aircraft.
However, the search is expected to continue for several hours.
