HSE Chief Executive Professor Brendan Drumm has rejected reports of cuts in the budget for Our Lady’s Children's Hospital Crumlin.

He said there had been reports of a €9m cut in its budget, but the hospital's own figures showed it would only be short €100,000 at the end of the year.

Prof Drumm said the hospital did have a difficulty, in that it had not yet made sufficient savings in non-frontline costs.

He said it was currently spending almost €50,000 a day on overtime and on-call payments.

The HSE was confident it could save €6m on non-frontline costs, without affecting patient care, he said.

Prof Drumm said there had also been reports that 14 scoliosis surgeries had been cancelled but the hospital had told the HSE none had been cancelled due to cost savings.
