A Longford mother has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death and serious bodily harm after two young children were killed when a car she was driving was involved in a crash.
Mary Carberry of 39 Clonguish Court, Newtownforbes, Co Longford, was the driver of a black BMW 116 that crashed into an embankment at Tinnynare on the outskirts of Edgeworthstown on 26 November 2007.
Six-year-old Ava Carberry and nine-year-old Michaela Logan from Kilcock, Co Kildare, were killed in the crash.
The defendant also pleaded guilty to failing to give a blood specimen at the Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar on the night of the accident, driving a vehicle without insurance and driving without holding a driving license.
The defendant's barrister Mr Bohan told the court that he was still awaiting a number of reports about the accident so he was seeking time before she is sentenced.
He also handed in a psychiatric report to Judge Antony Kennedy.
He concluded by asking the Judge if he would consider applying for a probation report on his client.
Judge Kennedy refused to grant this report saying that her psychiatric report indicated she was an alcoholic.
Judge Kennedy has now remanded the defendant on continuing bail until 6 October, the next sitting of Longford Circuit Court, when she will be sentenced.
