Pop star Michael Jackson has died in hospital after being found unconscious at his Los Angeles home.

Multiple US media outlets, including Associated Press, confirmed that the 50-year-old died after suffering a cardiac arrest just after 12pm local time (8pm Irish).

Paramedics said Mr Jackson was not breathing when they arrived at the singer's house.

They performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the scene before taking him to hospital.

Crowds of fans had been gathering outside the UCLA Medical Centre Hospital throughout the evening amid conflicting reports about the singer's condition.

Michael Jackson was due to start a series of comeback concerts in London on 13 July.

The singer has been rehearsing in the Los Angeles area for the past two months.
