Sligo hospital nurses to strike

Sligo - Nurses in strike action

The HSE says it has been advised that nurses will stage another one-day strike at Sligo General Hospital in protest at, what it claims is, understaffing.

The 12 and a half hour strike will take place next Wednesday; six days after the nurses went on strike for 10 hours at the hospital.

The HSE has called on the Irish Nurses Organisation to call off the action.

It said the decision to strike again was a gross dereliction of the professional duties of nurses to their patients.

It said yesterday's strike had put patients lives at risk.

The HSE has requested that the INO provide emergency cover, under an agreement for dispute resolution, and said the failure of the nursing unions to adhere to the agreement during yesterday's strike was unprecedented.
