Lufthansa Technik - Workers on protective notice

Lufthansa Technik Airmotive in Rathcoole has announced that it is putting the entire workforce of 465 on protective notice.

Unions at the company have called on Tánaiste Mary Coughlan to intervene to save the jobs.

The company may also lay off 150 staff in the immediate future.

The news comes after workers yesterday voted against Labour Court proposals on the introduction of new work practices.

The company said today that the level of work in the plant at present and in the future was not sufficient to sustain the present workforce.

SIPTU branch organiser Teresa Hannick called on the company to re-enter talks with its unions over the future of the plant.
