Dublin Bus - Ballot result released today

SIPTU members working at Dublin Bus have voted to accept changes in work practices and savings proposed by the company.

The result of a ballot released this evening shows some 56% of SIPTU drivers and other grades have accepted the proposed changes.

The National Bus and Rail Union is still voting on the proposals and a result is accepted tomorrow.

The NBRU represents slightly more Dublin Bus workers than SIPTU.

Following Labour Court talks last week, the threat of strike action by Dublin Bus drivers was postponed.

Dublin Bus management had also agreed to defer for one week implementation of cost-cutting measures, including the withdrawal of 120 buses from its fleet, which had been due to come into force last Sunday.

The Labour Court agreed to a request by unions for clarification on the impact of proposed work practises, particularly the effect the implementation of legal limits on driving times would have on overtime earnings.

That clarification was issued by the Labour Court last Tuesday.
