Technology firm Xilinx is to cut 130 jobs at its operation in Citywest in Dublin.

Some of the jobs will be moved to the company's operations in Singapore, while others will be outsourced.

The 400 staff at Xilinx's European Headquarters at Citywest were briefed by management this morning about changes to the company's global operations.

The majority of jobs lost will be from high-end manufacturing and test engineering part of the operation at Citywest.

A number of associated administrative and support jobs will also be affected.

The jobs are part of a global restructuring plan in which 6% of the global workforce is to be let go.

However, the research and development and engineering functions will continue at Citywest.

The redundancies will take place over the next nine months and staff will be offered what is described as an appropriate package.

Xilinx has been operating in Ireland since 1995.

It makes programmable microchips for use in electronic systems.
