The death of a man at the Tallaght branch of B&Q is being investigated by the Health and Safety Authority and gardaí.
The man, who is in his late 50s, was killed when he was struck by an object at around 2.30pm yesterday afternoon.
It is thought an item may have fallen fell from a shelf at the DIY store.
The store is closed today while investigations by the HSA and gardaí are carried out. Gardaí are not treating the man's death as suspicious.
Director of B&Q Ireland Brian Mooney said: 'It is with great sadness we confirm there was a fatal accident at our store in Tallaght.
'The store team are all devastated and our thoughts are with the friends and family of the deceased.
'We are working with the HSA and An Garda Síochána on a thorough investigation to understand how this tragic accident happened and our store will remain closed whilst this is under way.'
B&Q operates nine stores in Ireland and has been operating in this country since March 2002.
The Tallaght store opened in October 2003.
In June 2001, a 70-year-old woman died after an accident involving a forklift truck at the DIY superstore in Dorset in England.
However, B&Q say they take safety very seriously and fatalities in stores are rare.
The Tallaght store is expected to re-open tomorrow.
However, it will be some time before the findings of the various investigations will be known.
