Nine people were arrested and a number of people injured in clashes before the international match in Belfast between Northern Ireland and Poland.
At least one person was injured when trouble broke out in a pub on Bedford Street around 2.30pm.
Scuffles also took place on the Lisburn Road as rival supporters gathered for the game at nearby Windsor Park.
As both sets of fans made their way to the ground, there were a number of incidents in the Tates Avenue area and police moved in to separate the groups.
Fireworks, bricks and bottles were among the missiles thrown as police in riot gear attempted to bring the situation under control.
Northern Ireland fans blamed the trouble on a group of hooligans who travelled from Poland and many of them did not have tickets for the game.
