The funerals of the three brothers who died in a house fire in Co Louth last week have taken place in Drogheda.

Eight-year-old James, 16-year-old Tony and 21-year-old Martin McDonagh died when a fire broke out at their home in the Moneymore estate in Drogheda last Monday.

All three were buried after Requiem Mass in Our Lady Of Lourdes Church this afternoon.

Bishop Gerard Clifford, speaking on behalf of Cardinal Seán Brady, told the congregation that 'no mother or father ever expected to lose a son while they were young, but to lose three sons was a tragedy beyond comprehension'.

Around 1,000 mourners packed the church for the service along with Kathleen and Anthony McDonagh and the surviving brothers and sisters.

A Book of Condolence has been opened at the offices of Drogheda Borough Council.
