Afghanistan's presidential election cannot be held next month as demanded by President Hamid Karzai.
The Elections Commission has said that polling day will remain at its original date of 20 August.
Mr Karzai called at the weekend for the election to be moved forward to April to comply with the constitution, a move seen as stirring up political turmoil at a time of increasing threat from a Taliban insurgency.
The US, Afghan opposition groups and rival presidential contenders all back the August date.
