Junior doctors to strike over cuts

Junior hospital doctors have voted for industrial action if the HSE proceeds with its plan to cut overtime, allowances and grants.

The IMO says 99% per cent of junior doctors voted for strike action.

Dr John Morris, Vice President and Non Consultant Hospital Doctors Committee Member said :’It is unconscionable that the HSE should seek to establish such radical changes unilaterally without carrying out studies to measure their impact on patients and their effect on risk.’

‘The IMO has continuously expressed its willingness to constructively engage with the HSE on non-core contractual elements with a view to cost-containment.’

Talks between the HSE and the IMO on the issue are to continue tomorrow with the Labour Relations Commission
