Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin has begun his first visit to Latin America.

Tomorrow, the minister will travel to Havana in Cuba, the first official visit by an Irish Government minister to that country.

Mr Martin said he will avail of the opportunity to discuss a whole range of issues with his Cuban counterpart, including political, economic and social issues, as well as human rights.

Top of the agenda in Mexico will be the business ties between the two countries.

At present Ireland exports about €750m worth of goods to Mexico and Irish companies have also invested some €350m in business projects in the country.
