Irish fishing vessel detained in Norway

Capall Oir - Dispute over crew's wages

An Irish owned fishing boat has been detained in the Norwegian port of Tromso in a dispute over wages.

The 16 crew members on board the Galway-registered Capall Oir say that they are owed around €160,000.

The ship's owners dispute this figure.

The Norwegian Seamans' Union has drawn up a wages demand on behalf of the crew.

The owners of the Capall Oir say that the crew has frustrated the situation by not allowing access to the fish in order for the catch to be offloaded and sold.

They say that they have now secured a cash buyer for the fish on board and that they expect to be in a position to pay the crew tomorrow.
