Drivers are being warned to be careful as temperatures again drop below freezing tonight.

Motorists are being advised to drive with extra care on secondary roads, over high ground and in sheltered areas throughout the country.

In Wicklow there are dangerous driving conditions around the county, particularly through Roundwood, Brittas Bay, Lacken, Glencree, Glendalough and Dunlavin.

Motorists are advised to take extra care around Wicklow town, particularly on the Marlton Rd due to icy patches. They should avoid driving over high ground especially the Wicklow Gap, Sally Gap and Deputies Pass (the R752 between Glenealy and Rathdrum) which are impassable due to heavy snow and ice.

In Kildare, conditions are improving around Naas and on the M7 at J13.

In Meath, gardaí are advising motorists that conditions are dangerous on the M4 and old N4 between Kinnegad and Kilcock.

In Cavan, gardaí are advising motorists to avoid taking unnecessary journeys through Bailieborough, Virgina and Kingscourt.

Motorists in Westmeath should take care on all routes around Athlone, particularly in the right hand lane of the M6 due to slushy road conditions.

In Laois, motorists should take care on the roads around Portlaoise and Abbeyleix, as earlier snow showers have resulted in dangerous conditions.

Road conditions are also poor around Tullamore, following snow showers and drivers are asked to take particular care on back roads.

In Kilkenny, there are dangerous conditions on the roads into and out of the city following snow showers.

Snow showers are also leading to slippery conditions on all routes throughout Co Carlow.

In Longford, frequent snow showers are leading to dangerous conditions on all routes.

Scattered heavy snow showers in Co Leitrim are leading to dangerous conditions around the county. Particular care is advised on the N16 Sligo/Enniskillen Rd through Manorhamilton, and also around Carrick-on-Shannon.

Care is also advised through Tuam, where routes are slippery due to snow showers.

Motorists are also advised to take care on routes around Boyle and avoid the Curlew Mountains.

In Mayo, they should take care on secondary routes through the county, due to slushy and slippery conditions.

In Tippperary, gardaí are advising extreme caution on all routes around the county, due to slushy conditions.

In Co Derry, heavy snowfall has also been reported, which caused the temporary closure of the runway at City of Derry airport.

The runway has now been re-opened following a clearance operation and all remaining flights for today are expected to operate normally provided no further snowfall occurs. Passengers on all outbound flights should check in as normal.

Finally, in Donegal snow is still falling. Particular care is needed in Letterkenny and Ballybofey, where main roads are passable with care. Gardaí are advising motorists to avoid using back roads.
