US Vice President Joe Biden has said the US is willing to talk to Iran but said it would face pressure and isolation if it did not abandon its nuclear programme.
Speaking at a security conference in Munich, he said the international community must work together to convince Iran to forgo the development of nuclear weapons.
He said: ‘We are willing to talk to Iran, and to offer a very clear choice: continue down your current course and there will be pressure and isolation; abandon your illicit nuclear programme and support for terrorism and there will be meaningful incentives.’
He also said that the US will ask other countries to take in inmates from its Guantanamo Bay prison.
‘As we seek a lasting framework for our common struggle against extremism, we will have to work cooperatively with nations around the world, and we will need your help,’ Biden told the international security conference.
‘For example, we will ask others to take responsibility for some of those now at Guantanamo, as we determine to close it.’
