Conditions around Clonmel are said to be improving as the water levels recede.

Yesterday, up to 40 residents had to be evacuated from their homes in the town after the River Suir burst its banks.

Extensive damage has been caused to properties in the town.

The ‘Old Bridge’ area remains one of the worst affected, and remains impassable this morning.

Gardaí say four bridges in the centre of the town remain closed, although Thomas Bridge has re-opened.
