According to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office life expectancy for men and women in Ireland has increased.

Figures for 2005 to 2007 show the life expectancy at birth for males increased by 1.7 years to 76.8 years, while for women, life expectancy at birth increased by 1.3 years to 81.6 years.

The gap between male and female life expectancy has also reduced.

Irish male life expectancy ranked in joint 12th place in the EU in 2006, while for females it ranked in 16th place.
