A group campaigning for the rights of children has accused the Government of putting in a barely acceptable performance in honouring its commitments to children.
The Children's Rights Alliance has drawn up its first annual report card and claims the Government has scraped a disappointing ‘D’ grade.
The report card judges how the Government is delivering on promises and commitments that it has made to children in the areas of education, health, material well-being and safeguarding childhood.
The Alliance is describing the Government's performance as extremely disappointing and claims the result means too many children are being denied the fundamental building blocks to live healthy and productive lives.
It says the economic downturn should not be used as an excuse to roll back on commitments to children.
