Kostal - Management to meet workers
Kostal - Management to meet workers

There are fears for the future of 1,050 jobs at the car components company Kostal in Abbeyfeale in Co Limerick and Mallow in Co Cork.

650 people are employed by the company at its plant in Newcastlewest and 400 work at its Mallow location.

The company is to meet employees at both plants in the morning.

Workers had been on short time since December because of a downturn in business and they only returned to work this week.

Limerick SIPTU representative Karen O’Loughlin said there is concern among workers that the company may be about to announce redundancies, but its not known how many.

She said the company is a good employer and they will be engaging with the company in the coming weeks to maintain jobs there.

Elewhere, there is concern that 400 people may be laid-off at the RR Donnelly plant at Raheen in Limerick.

It is a sub-supplier of Dell and is one of a number of companies that will be affected by that company's announcement last week that it is to lay-off 1,900 workers.

However, there has been no confirmation of job cuts by the company.
