The Health Service Executive has asked the public to adhere to visitor restrictions in place at several hospitals around the country in a bid to contain the spread of the winter vomiting bug.

Beaumont, the Mater, St Vincent's and Tallaght hospitals in Dublin, as well as Naas General, the Mid-Western Regional in Ennis and the Midland Regional in Mullingar all have visitor restrictions in place.

The HSE is also calling on people not to attend their emergency departments unless it is absolutely necessary.

They are instead being urged to visit their GP.
