The High Court has appointed an interim examiner to DVD and video rental chain Chartbusters.
The company employs more than 250 people and has 42 stores nationwide.
Chartbusters has debts of €20m.
The company is owned by Xtra-vision founder Richard Murphy, property developer John Walsh and builder John McCabe.
In a statement, Chartbusters said all its branches would remain open as usual during the examinership process and that a number of potential investors had already approached the company.
