Waste company Oxigen may face financial repercussions for a failure to carry out collections of dry recyclable refuse in Dublin.
The company was supposed to continue collections of green bags and bins until 31 December when a new company, Greyhound, took over the contract.
But many collections across the city were not made over the past number of weeks, causing a build up of waste in many streets.
Last night assistant Dublin city manager Matt Twomey told councillors that arrangements with Oxigen are being finalised and this will include the issue of missed collections.
He urged any householders affected to contact the city council.
It is understood that the city council can refuse to pay for missed collections.
In most areas of Dublin, households have the option of going with a private rubbish and recycling collector such as Panda, which did not miss its collections over the holiday season.
