Vodafone Ireland has announced it is to cut 150 jobs due to what it describes as the difficult economic climate.

The company told staff and unions it hopes to make the redundancies through a voluntary redundancy programme.

Vodafone is beginning a month-long consultation process with unions and employees.

It currently employs 1,500 staff and has its headquarters in Sandyford in Dublin.
