A woman who died last January while waiting for a bed at the Mater had been treated in hospital two weeks earlier for severe chest pains, the Coroner's Court in Dublin was told today.
39-year-old Beverly Seville-Doyle from Manor Grove, Whitehall Road in Dublin attended the Mater in January and was told there was no bed available for her. The diabetic woman was given a chair and put on a drip for rehydration.
The next morning she went to the toilet in the Accident and Emergency unit where she collapsed and died.
The pathologist who supervised the post-mortem into her death, Dr Michelle Harrison, said this morning she concluded that Ms Seville-Doyle had died from cardiac arrest.
This afternoon, a consultant who had treated Ms Seville-Doyle at Mater hospital outlined how the patient had been assessed several times.
Dr Denise Sadlier said none of her colleagues felt that medical care was compromised by staying in the A&E unit.
The inquest has been adjourned until late January 2009.
