Russian President Dmitri Medvedev has said he hopes that US President-elect Barack Obama will take steps to mend strained relations between the Kremlin and Washington.
In a speech to the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, Mr Medvedev said he hoped Mr Obama would be a willing partner to address what he described as a lack of necessary mutual trust between Russia and the US.
He said he wanted to meet Mr Obama as soon he takes over from George W Bush.
