South African President Kgalema Motlanthe has urged Zimbabwe's political rivals to show 'maturity' and resolve their differences over forming a unity government.
'The political leadership owe it to the people of Zimbabwe and the region to show political maturity and political leadership for the good of the people,' Mr Motlanthe said.
Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe and opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai signed a power-sharing deal on 15 September following disputed elections earlier in the year.
But their effort to form a unity government has bogged down over disputes about who will control the most important cabinet posts, particularly home affairs, which runs the police.
'The historic power-sharing agreement remains the only vehicle to help extricate Zimbabwe from her socio-economic challenges,' Mr Motlanthe said.
'It is disappointing. It is two months since the signing of the agreement and parties have still not reached the agreement of an inclusive government,' he added.
