The death has taken place of the former Chief Constable of the RUC, Sir John Hermon.
He was 79 and had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Lady Sylvia Hermon, the Ulster Unionist MP for North Down, and a daughter and three sons.
John Hermon, who was known privately as Jack, joined the RUC in 1951 and was appointed Chief Constable in 1980.
His period in office ended in 1989.
He was in charge of policing during one of the most turbulent periods in Northern Ireland's history.
