11 dead in Russia bus blast

11 people have been killed by a suspected terrorist in a minibus in the southwestern Russian city of Vladikavkaz.

The blast occurred in a busy street in the centre of the city, which is in the North Ossetia area of the Caucasus.

Witnesses said the bus was packed with people at the time of the blast.

The investigative committee of the Russian prosecution service put the latest death toll at 11 and said it had opened a terrorism investigation.

An emergency meeting of local security forces was told that the explosives were activated by a woman suicide bomber.

28 injured people are reported to have sought medical help.

North Ossetia lies on Russia's southern border with Georgia.
