A further hearing by the Public Accounts Committee into management and procurement issues at the state training body FÁS has been postponed due to the late arrival of some documentation from FÁS.

Senior FÁS management including director general Rody Molloy along with the Comptroller and Auditor General John Buckley were all in attendance for today's session, but the committee sat for just 20 minutes in public.

PAC Chairman Bernard Allen said it was extremely disappointing that material sought from FÁS only arrived this Monday although it had been requested a month ago.

Mr Allen said it was incredible that a public body like FÁS with a massive budget took so long to supply the information. He said the Committee was unable to carry out its duties.

Mr Allen said that because of the late arrival of the documents, the Committee needs more time to look over them and he has suspended today's hearing until a later date.

The material sought covered expenditure, procurement and audit details at FÁS over the past 8 years.

Mr Molloy said it was not intended to be discourteous but legal advice had delayed the release of information.

The PAC is inquiring into matters covered in a special report written by the FÁS internal audit unit in 2006.

FÁS is also the subject of a separate investigation request from the Tánaiste to the Comptroller and Auditor General along with a garda inquiry.
