A suicide bomber has killed at least eight people in an attack on police in Mardan in northwestern Pakistan.
Up to 25 people were injured.
Mardan police chief Akhtar Ali Shah said the attacker had detonated explosives as Mr Ali Shah was leaving his office with an escort.
Police said at least three policemen were killed in the attack.
Mian Iftikhar Hussain, information minister of North West Frontier province, earlier said eight people, including the bomber, had been killed and 25 wounded.
And a doctor at Mardan's main government hospital said nine people had been killed, three of them policemen.
