Warning over education cuts

Post-primary schools - Pupils may be sent home
Post-primary schools - Pupils may be sent home

Post-primary school management have said that pupils may have to be sent home from schools on health and safety grounds if the Government's proposed education budget cutbacks go ahead.

At a press conference this afternoon, post-primary management bodies said this was not a threat but a reality.

Second-level teachers' unions joined with management bodies and parents groups to call for a reversal of the cuts.

They say the cuts will result in chaos for schools.

They have also described some of the cuts as heinous and immoral, saying they target the most vulnerable pupils.

The sector has called on parents and teachers to support a rally outside Leinster House next Wednesday, timed to coincide with a Dáil debate on the issue.
