A man has died following a car crash in north Antrim.

The accident involving two cars happened on the Bann Road between Ballymoney and Aghadowey this morning.

He was 35-year-old Stephen Moorcroft who came originally from Coleraine but was living in Balnamore village near Ballymoney.

The man is the 82nd person to have died on the roads in Northern Ireland this year.

Earlier, three young children and two adults from the one family died in a motorway accident in Cheshire in England.

Their car burst into flames in an accident involving three lorries and another car on the M6 at about 10.40pm last night.

Police found five bodies in the car that caught fire.

The driver of one of the lorries, a man in his mid-40s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The crash followed an earlier incident one junction further along the same section of motorway, which had caused tailbacks.

That crash happened just before 9pm and involved a white van that hit a bridge parapet.

The driver, a man in his 30s, died in the crash.
