A group of parliamentarians from Ireland and the UK is to press the British government to hand over sensitive security information about the Omagh bombing investigation.
The issue is going to be raised at a meeting of the British Irish Interparliamentary Body in Newcastle tomorrow by Fine Gael TD Brian Hayes and British Labour party MP Andrew Mc Kinley.
The BIC was set up after the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. It is made up of 30 politicians from Westminster, 30 more from the Dáil and Seanad, five each from the Northern Ireland Assembly, the Welsh Assembly and the Scottish Parliament and three each from Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.
In a highly-controversial motion, Mr Hayes and Mr McKinley will seek for transcripts of telephone conversations that may involve the bomb suspects to be made available.
Such information could provide important evidence for relatives of the Omagh victims who are pursuing a civil case against five men.
