The Defence Forces are to close a number of facilites as a consequence of the Budget.

Two army posts in Co Donegal, two barracks in Longford and Monaghan, and St Bricin's Military Hospital are to be closed.

About 135 personnel from Rockhill Military Post in Letterkenny and 123 personnel from Lifford Military Post. all of 28 Infantry Battalion, are to move to Finner Camp in Ballyshannon.

4 Cavalry Squadron's 130 personnel in Connolly Barracks, Longford, are to move to Custume Barracks in Athlone, Co Westmeath.

And 200 personnel of 27 Infantry Battalion will move from Monaghan Barracks to Aiken Barracks in Dundalk, Co Louth

The facilities at St Bricin’s Military Hospital in Dubliln will be closed and moved with 46 staff to the Military Medical Facility in the Curragh, Co Kildare.

No date for that move has been decided.

Chief of Staff Lt Gen Dermot Earley said the closures would be a disappointment, but pointed out that there were no job losses involved.

Gen Earley will visit each of the facilities as soon as possible to meet with staff there.
