Waterford Crystal is to seek a further 280 job cuts on top of the 492 redundancies sought last November.
It is understood that management informed Shop stewards of the proposals today.
The company immediately requires 200 redundancies to complete the redundancies sought last year and a further 280 jobs are to go at the Waterford plant.
Reports say 70 employees will remain in manufacturing and a further 55 jobs will remain in sales.
It is expected that management will address the workforce this Thursday.
Separately, around 250 workers are to lose their jobs at the Wyeth Medica plant in Newbridge.
The company announced in 2006 that 250 jobs would go with the closure of a production line. The line remained open and only 100 jobs went at that time.
Now the line is closing and the remaining 150 jobs are being lost, plus an additional unexpected 100 job losses.
Wyeth has blamed lower product volumes, and the need to reduce costs as the reason behind the job losses.
