Social networking website Facebook is to create 70 jobs with the establishment of its international headquarters in Dublin.

The new office will host a range of online technical, sales and operations to support users in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

'After exploring various locations throughout the region, we decided Ireland was the best place to establish our new headquarters,' Chief Operating Officer of Facebook Sheryl Sandberg said.

Ms Sandberg said the talent pool in Dublin is 'world class'.

Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise Trade & Employment, Mary Coughlan, said it is a 'terrific endorsement' that Ireland can satisfy the needs of such highly innovative and technologically advanced companies.

Facebook has its headquarters in Palo Alto, California.
