Sensible Junior Cert celebrations urged

Junior Cert - Students get results
Junior Cert - Students get results

More than 56,000 students have been receiving the results of their Junior Certificate examinations today.

This year's results are very much in line with those of previous years and have been available in schools from this morning.

Minister for Education Batt O'Keeffe says he is encouraged by the numbers taking Science and Higher Level Maths.

Teacher's union the ASTI says the country should be proud of students and schools who despite under resourcing do so well.

But business group IBEC says the exam stifles creativity and needs to change.

Both the unions and the minister advised students to celebrate sensibly.

With ongoing concerns over teenage alcohol consumption, more events are being scheduled to allow people celebrate without the use of drugs or drink.

The No Name Club, which promotes alternatives to alcohol-centred activities, says many of its branches around the country will be holding events tonight.
